Air Filter

The engine needs to absorb a lot of air during operation. If the air is not filtered, dust from the air enters the cylinder, which accelerates piston and cylinder wear. Larger particles trapped between the piston and cylinder cause severe "cylinder yank", especially in dry, sandy operating conditions. An engine air filter is installed in front of the carburetor or intake pipe to filter out dust and sand particles in the air and provide enough clean air to the cylinder.
